With a clear vision and a talented collective, Cake Records continues to rise as a forward-thinking label, fully committed to building a lasting legacy in the ever-evolving music landscape.
The label is led by three core members, whose combined background and expertise in production, engineering, songwriting, and artist development, drive Cake’s approach to helping their clients navigate the music industry:
STUART SINGLETON
Stuart Singleton, the co-founder of Cake Records, has been immersed in the music industry since his early teens, carving out a multifaceted career defined by creativity, innovation, and dedication. With extensive experience organizing shows and managing bands, Singleton has seamlessly transitioned through a variety of roles, demonstrating his adaptability and unwavering passion for music. Whether it’s social media promotion, artist development, publicity strategy, or producing and writing songs, he embodies the versatility of a modern-day music industry renaissance man.
Singleton’s creativity extends well beyond the realm of music. As a visual artist with a keen eye for detail, he has curated captivating photos and directed compelling music videos. His talent for visual storytelling complements his musical expertise, making him an indispensable cornerstone of the Cake Records team.
In addition to his artistic pursuits, Singleton brings invaluable experience in publishing administration, ensuring artists receive proper rights management, royalties, and legal protection for their creations. This rare blend of creative vision and business acumen has solidified his reputation as the glue that binds Cake Records, driving the label’s mission to empower artists and elevate their careers.
WILL NEWMAN
Will Newman started young playing stages in Asheville, NC; everything from opening for the Blues Brothers at the Biltmore Estate as a pre-teen, performing at the iconic Orange Peel venue 4 times before graduating high school, to playing Carnegie Hall with the high school band. With a polished keyboard skillset and curiosity for the sonic landscape, Will spent four years at the University of Miami Frost School of music in the Media, Writing, and Production program, led by Emmy and Grammy-winning composer Carlos Rafael Rivera. There, along with his studies under the Bruce Hornsby-curated Creative American Music program, he added songwriting, production, sound design, arrangement, and orchestration to his musical tool belt.
Picking up more instruments (saxophone, guitar, bass, mandolin…) and genres (jazz, hip-hop, electronic, rock, country…) along the way through collaborations with various artists, writers, and producers, Will serves as a multi-purpose tool for studio sessions and live bands. His diverse background and passion for all types of music leave no style out of the question.
For quick and quality turnarounds for instrumental parts, Charting demos for full band sessions, any arrangement and orchestral needs, or another set of ears to figure out exactly what note to add or remove, Will is here to serve the song
MATT ROYER
Matt Royer, co-founder and partner at Cake Records, began his music career at a young age. At just 15, he left school after meeting country singer-songwriter Ernest, choosing to dedicate himself fully to music. Working alongside his father—a founding member of the iconic band Bread and an Oscar winner for Best Original Song in 1971—Royer honed his skills in songwriting, music production, engineering, and artist development, helping Ernest launch his artistic journey.
Throughout his career, Royer has been mentored by industry titans such as Joey Moi and Jim Jonsin, gaining invaluable insights into the integrity of creating a record. With over a decade of experience, Royer is now committed to helping artists achieve their goals, whether it’s crafting a single, producing an album, or navigating a complete rebrand. He and his team are dedicated to supporting the creative process in whatever way best serves the artist’s vision.
Together, this trio forms the heart of Cake Records, steering its mission and vision.
